I plan to use the book to help my daughter learn to practice better on her violin. That's what's really wrong. The kid juast doesn't seem to get anything out of her practice. And she never stays at it long enough to accomplish anything. Ten - fifteen minutes and she's done. How can anyone learn anything in ten or fifteen minutes. Do you have any answers for that problem, Ms. Sdoia-Satz? Oh by the way, Practicing Sucks, But It Doesn't Have To! is such a catchy title. A person can relieve anger and frustration just by saying it.

Anyhow, I'd really appreciate an answer about my daughter's practice.Thanks.

Sorry it is taking so long for the book to come out. I am looking forward to seeing it. I have seen your seminars on how to learn and I'm glad to see you have put all your ideas into a book.

I am a piano teacher and so many parents express exactly what you have. The suggestions offered by Phyllis Sdoia-Satz are ones I agree with. Another way to promote your child to practice is by showing interest in it yourself. Offer to go to lessons with your child or to practice with him/her. Engaging in conversation about the pieces or playing games together with the pieces during a practice session will entice the child to practice more. When it becomes a family affair the student won't feel so isolated. Good luck and have fun sharing music.

Ms. Satz (I'm assuming I'm talking to the author of the book, correct me if I'm wrong), I have a teenaged daughter who plays the flute. But, sometimes, she would rather play with her friends than practice. I know she's good, because her music teacher at school said she was, but sometimes...well, she's just not that into it. Is there anything I can do to get her to practice more or take it seriously? She really has talent, and I don't want to push her, but I don't want her to miss out, either. Any suggestions? Angel
